Ford Explorer EV Leads Hometown Parade Ahead Of Launch

The European Ford Explorer EV broke cover last March as the first of two all-electric Blue Oval crossovers slated to ride on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, with a launch date originally planned for early 2024. However, that launch was later pushed back six months as the automaker awaits the arrival of VW’s next-gen battery. Regardless, more than one Ford Explorer EV prototype has been out and about as of late, as one is currently crossing the globe with travel influencer Lexie Alford, while another recently embarked on a dealer tour in the UK. Now, yet another Ford Explorer EV was spotted at Germany’s largest carnival parade in Cologne, Germany this past week.

This particular Explorer EV is finished in red, and was present to lead 11,500 participants in the world-famous Rose Monday Parade in front of an estimated one million spectators. This appearance was notable for a number of reasons, including the fact that the Explorer EV will be built at Ford’s Cologne Electrification Center in that same city, which is also where it was developed. Amazingly, however, this was also the first time the electrified crossover has made a public appearance there, too.

Ford has long been an avid supporter of the Rose Monday Parade, as it provides transport support for the massive event each year. For this year’s installment, a fleet of Ford vans drove between a grand total of 77 floats and 25 carnival floats, taking part in a procession that covered a route that spanned 7.5 kilometers (roughly 4.7 miles) in distance.

Ultimately, this was a great way to get the Ford Explorer EV out in public and in front of its potential future customers, just a few months before it finally launches this coming August. Full details regarding the Explorer EV have yet to be revealed, but we do know that it will be available in two trim levels at launch – Explorer and Explorer Premium – and it will start out at around €45,000 ($48,513 USD).
