Ford Explorer Production Increased In January 2024

As was the case for most automotive models, the Ford Explorer enjoyed a bit of an up and down year in 2023 in terms of production numbers. Output for the long-running crossover plummeted in October – from 22,623 units in September to just 173 units at the Chicago Assembly plant – though that dip can be blamed on the now-resolved United Auto Workers strike that shut down the facility for weeks. However, a new deal was reached later that month, after which Ford Explorer production increased to 19,735 units in November, then 20,120 units in December to close out the year. According to FoMoCo’s latest sales report, that upward trend continued in January, too,

In the first month of the year, Ford Explorer production totaled 21,835 units, which is an increase of 8.5 percent compared to December. These numbers pertain to the 2024 model year Explorer, however, as the refreshed model hasn’t yet entered production at the Chicago Assembly plant. As Ford Authority reported last October, the 2024 model year will be a short one for the crossover, as it will be supplanted by the 2025 model this spring.

When the refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer does launch in the coming months, it will arrive bearing a number of notable changes compared to the outgoing model. That includes the addition of the new entry-level Active to the lineup, plus a revised fascia that varies slightly by trim, slimmer LED headlights, and lower, wider air curtains. In the rear, the taillights now extend to the nameplate appliqué, too.

In addition to the new Ford Digital Experience infotainment software, the refreshed 2025 Explorer is also getting a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, new soft touch surfaces, available ActiveX seating, silver mesh accents, and a redesigned dashboard that’s been moved forward to increase front row legroom, along various other changes.
