The Ford Fiesta was discontinued as production of the long-running model ended at the Cologne Assembly plant in Germany – now known as the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center – in early July of last year. It was somewhat of a somber occasion for all involved, with the final three models produced rolling off the assembly line bearing the signatures of the workers that built them. However, even though Europeans can no longer buy a new Ford Fiesta, that model remains a red-hot entity on the used vehicle market. In fact, the Fiesta was the UK’s most popular used vehicle in 2022, repeating that feat in Q2 of 2023. Now that the final year-end numbers are in, the Ford Fiesta retained its title as the UK’s best-selling used vehicle in 2023 as well, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Last year, shoppers scooped up 308,017 used Ford Fiesta models, which was good enough to beat out the rest of its competition – a list that includes the Vauxhall Corsa, Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra, Mini, BMW 3-Series, Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Qashquai, and Audi A3 rounding out the top 10. As for the overall used vehicle market in the UK, sales rose by 5.1 percent year-over-year as shoppers purchased a total of 7,242,692 models. Amid that group, small cars and crossovers accounted for the highest mix at 32.1 percent of that total, too.
While the Ford Fiesta figures to remain a hot entity on the used vehicle market for years to come, The Blue Oval hasn’t ruled out bringing back that same nameplate for a future EV, as Ford Authority previously reported. The Fiesta EV would presumably utilize the same Volkswagen MEB platform as the Ford Explorer EV – which is also being produced at the Cologne plant in Germany.
