Ford Puma Among Top 20 Best Selling European Cars Of 2023

Since it originally launched in the region a few years ago, the Ford Puma has remained at or near the top of the European sales charts. In fact, the small crossover finished 2021 as Europe’s 20th best-selling vehicle before moving up a few spots to 16th place in 2022 and becoming the UK’s top-selling new model in 2023 – all while the Kuga PHEV ranked as the most popular plug-in hybrid across Europe last year. As for the Ford Puma, it continued its run of success in that same region across the entirety of 2023 as well, according to new data from JATO Dynamics.

Last year, the Ford Puma ranked as the 11th best-selling new vehicle in Europe, continuing its ascension up the ranks as The Blue Oval moved 159,704 units there – good enough for a 17 percent increase, year-over-year. That result also means that the Ford Puma ranked behind only the top-selling Tesla Model Y (251,604 units sold in 2023), as well as the Dacia Sandero (234,715), Volkswagen T-Roc (204,610), Renault Clio (201,604), Peugeot 208 (193,679), Opel/Vauxhall Corsa (188,154), Volkswagen Golf (183,716), Toyota Yaris Cross (176,285), Fiat/Abarth 500 (173,187), and Skoda Octavia (160,662) in terms of overall sales last year.

As for the overall European new vehicle market, sales reached their highest level since the pre-pandemic years, totaling 12,792,151 units in 2023 – a year-over-year increase of 14 percent – as EV sales, in particular, surpassed the two million unit mark for the very first time as well.

“Europe’s automotive market appears to be normalizing,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “Supply chain issues are now largely under control, and consumers have become accustomed to waiting longer to receive new vehicles. Despite this, it is unlikely we will see volumes surpass the 15 million units recorded in 2019. Purchasing a vehicle has become more expensive, and attitudes to ownership continue to change.”
