Ford Workers Will Return To Office For Three Days Per Week

Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, the vast majority of white collar workers – or, at least, those considered “non-essential” – transitioned from working in offices to working from home. Once the pandemic began to taper off, many companies – including The Blue Oval – switched to a hybrid work model that allowed them to continue working from home unless they needed to go to the office, which proved quite popular with Ford workers. However, most opted to continue working from home, even as more and more white collar workers have been returning to offices in recent months. Now, that seemingly won’t be a choice for at least some salaried Ford workers anymore, according to Crain’s Detroit Business.

“People in several Ford functions have been working in-person three days a week for more than a year,” said Ford spokesman T.R. Reid. “Additional teams have joined them along the way and, yes, others will formally start hybrid schedules in March. Details vary based on the work each group does. The benefits from additional on-site collaboration are apparent.”

Ford didn’t specify how much of its 28,000 person salaried workforce will be required to report to the office three days per week, but Reid did add that “most office-based Ford people will be back in the office as part of a hybrid work arrangement, and three days a week is overwhelmingly typical.” The change – which has already been in place at Ford’s cross-town rival, General Motors since the start of the year – is slated to take place on March 1st.

“This largely completes a process that started a long time ago,” Reid said. “This is where we’ve been pointed, and we understand we can do what we need to best in a way that has people working together in person while at the same time having the flexibility to do so remotely.”

I wonder about these at home jobs instead of going to work. Do these people get paid when the power fails, furnace or air conditioning break down?

Make the three days a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday and I would be ok with that!
