Fuel Mileage Stalls NASCAR Xfinity Ford Teams At Atlanta: Video

Fuel mileage was the name of the game in the Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on February 24th, 2024, and unfortunately, the fastest NASCAR Ford Mustangs just didn’t save enough to make it to the end, opening the door for a Chevy to win for the second week in a row.

Riley Herbst was able to keep pace with the leaders for most of the race, putting the No. 98 Mustang in good position to win as the laps ticked down. While he couldn’t snag the lead from the No. 2 Chevy Camaro SS of Jesse Love, the dominant car during the race, Herbst stayed in his tire tracks. Unfortunately, as Herbst was running second, he ran out of fuel on Lap 160, nine laps short of the checkered flag.

Almost immediately after Herbst’s No. 98 Mustang plummeted through the field, Cole Custer’s No. 00 Mustang started running on fumes, scrubbing off speed as his race car, too, ran dry. Ryan Sieg’s No. 39 NASCAR Ford also ran out, ultimately drawing the night’s final caution flag as he struggled to clear the racing surface.

Herbst wound up 15th with Custer behind him in 16th, and Sieg was credited with 22nd. Up front, Austin Hill saved enough fuel to win the race in the No. 21 Camaro.
