Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a video projector system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on August 8th, 2022, published on February 8th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0048674.
The Ford Authority Take
Over the past few months, Ford has filed a pair of patents that aim to place different types of screens in its future models – one for a retractable video display system, and another for a frunk-mounted projection screen. Now, this newly-filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for a video projector system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
Unlike the previously-mentioned patents, this new filing would place the screen and associated hardware in the rear cargo area of a vehicle such as a crossover or SUV, as we can see from these drawings. The projector system would be located inside of the liftgate itself, meaning that when it’s in the open position, it would align perfectly with the screen, which can be stowed away, ensuring that it takes up only minimal space inside of a vehicle.
The potential uses of such a system are quite vast, ranging from tailgates and birthday parties to camping endeavors and even a simple desire to have movie night outside on a pleasant evening. Ford clearly understands that more and more people are partaking in such activities these days, though toting around TVs and other equipment can be quite cumbersome. As such, this particular idea seems like one that could easily wind up making its way into future Ford vehicles, and we imagine it would be a popular feature if that does in fact happen.
