The Ford Authority Take
Ford clearly has our pets on its minds as of late, as the automaker has filed a rather large number of patents that aim to make vehicles more friendly for dog and cat owners over the past several months. That list includes filings for ideas such as a dedicated pet mode, a pet monitoring and control system, an inflatable pet enclosure, a pet detection system, and an integrated pet bowl with water level sensing technology, to name just a few. Now, this newly-filed patent keeps that trend going with another idea centered around our best friends – a pet water bowl with vehicle communication technology that may wind up being used in future Ford vehicles.
According to this patent filing, this idea would consist of a pet bowl located in a vehicle that would be equipped with sensors that could determine how much water and/or food is in that bowl. If the bowl is getting low or is empty, it would then alert the vehicle – and subsequently, the owner. The bowl would also be capable of taking the temperature of the water inside and even cool it off or warm it up if needed, based on set parameters.
On top of all that, the vehicle would also be able to notify owners if the pet bowl spills, is located outside of the vehicle, or any other number of potential uses for such technology. It’s an interesting idea for certain, and one that seems to indicate that Ford envisions a future in which smart pet bowls become a common thing.
