Though it cut its proverbial teeth on the Fox Body Ford Mustang, Steeda has been busy cranking out parts and accessories for newer models as of late – a list that includes its ProFlow intercooler for the sixth-generation Ford Bronco, as well as various goodies for the all-new S650 generation 2024 Ford Mustang and even some variants of that sale pony car. However, now, Steeda has announced that it’s going back to its roots by renewing the development of parts for Fox Body, SN95, and S197 Mustangs, too.
Since the debut of the S550 Ford Mustang, Steeda has largely focused on it and the brand-new S650, as it has done with each passing generation. However, the company notes that there are around 2.6 million Fox Body pony cars and two million SN95 models still out there roaming our roads – many of them either modified or in need of replacement parts, which creates a pretty strong business opportunity.
Steeda still has examples of all three of these pony car generations in its own stable, which it will continue to review and test parts for, which it can then sell to the general public. In fact, many of those parts are already available, but moving forward, the company also plans to use what it has learned from the S550 and S650 and then apply that to parts designed for older models, too.
“We are going to revisit spring rates and spring frequencies on the S197,” said Steeda president Dario Orlando. “There are ideas that I learned on the S550 and S650. There’s a lot of technology – newer technology – in those vehicles, but still, the vehicle dynamics remain the same. So a lot of things that I learned on those vehicles that I can actually move back into S197 and even the Fox Body, especially engineering information related to spring frequency and downforce. The software that I have now allows us to revisit those vehicles and make sure that our spring frequencies are very good. And if they’re not, I can tweak them a little bit. So we’re going to be tweaking that up a little bit with the stay bars and stuff like that.”
