In the world of motorsports, few liveries have achieved the level of fame as the one that donned a number of cars sponsored by Gulf Oil, which consists of a special light blue paint with orange graphics. That list includes the Le Mans-winning GT40, and as such, The Blue Oval has since celebrated this fact with a special Heritage Edition model. That same treatment wound up on a very special one-of-one 2020 Ford GT MKII as well, while a similar hue dubbed Heritage Blue was also available on that same-gen model. Now, this 2018 Ford GT has surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer wearing Gulf Blue paint, which wasn’t exactly a cheap hue to acquire.
Originally delivered to Bozeman Ford in Montana, this 2018 Ford GT has only racked up 222 miles in the years since, and but its most notable feature is obviously that aforementioned exterior paint, which was an extended color palette option that cost a whopping $30k to add. It doesn’t feature the same sort of orange complements as other Gulf Oil inspired cars, but it’s clear that the original owner had a thing for the iconic light blue color that helped make it so famous in the first place.
Inside the cabin, this 2018 Ford GT features the optional Dark Energy package, and is equipped with black Alcantara Sparco seats with manually reclining carbon-fiber shells, an Alcantara-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, an adjustable pedal box and steering column, plus amenities such as automatic climate control, suede-covered door sills, and a touchscreen infotainment system.
In terms of powertrains, all Ford GT models from this generation are equipped with the twin turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, which in this guise produces 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. All Ford GTs command big money at auction these days, but in this case, we imagine that the presence of a special – and pricey – paint color might just help it rake in a bit more money than usual.
