The Ford Escape has long ranked as one of the most popular used vehicles among shoppers in the U.S., as well as a coveted option on the new vehicle market. However, after naming the 2020 version of the crossover as one of the most popular used vehicles last year, Consumer Reports also placed the 2021 Ford Escape on its list of popular cars to avoid, largely due to vibrations from its 1.5L EcoBoost powerplant, a firm ride, a sensitive brake pedal, and uncomfortable seats. However, that didn’t impact the 2021 Ford Escape in terms of its popularity among shoppers, as the crossover managed to make the cut on CR‘s list of the top-searched models yet again – joining the Ford F-150 in that regard.
To come up with this latest top 10 list, Consumer Reports simply looked at which used model pages on its own site drive the most traffic, meaning that they’re the most searched-for used vehicles overall. Most of them have already received CR’s recommended status, meaning that they’ve performed well in road testing, are reliable, have superior crash ratings, and come equipped with a bevy of standard safety tech.
As is always the case with this particular list, CR limited its top 10 selections to vehicles that are three years old, mainly because that’s when most leased vehicles tend to be turned in, and those types of models are attractive for having lower mileage, as well as the fact that they’re typically well-maintained. In that case, the 2021 Ford Escape ranked fifth on this list – up two spots from last year – landing behind only the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, and Ford F-150.
In this latest assessment, CR once again praised the Escape’s adequate power, solid fuel economy ratings, along with decent handling and easy to use controls. However, it also chided the crossover’s somewhat uncomfortable seats, vibrations at low speed, firm ride, and sensitive brake pedal.
