The all-electric Ford E-Transit debuted in late 2020 for the 2022 model year, and since then, has dominated the burgeoning EV van segment, proving that its promise of providing commercial fleets with lower operating costs truly came to fruition. Since then, Ford hasn’t updated the E-Transit, however, even amid rumors that an extended range version was in the works as recently as a year ago. Now, however, the refreshed 2024 Ford E-Transit has been revealed, and it has more to offer in a couple of important areas.
The 2024 Ford E-Transit is equipped with a larger battery touting 89 kWh of usable capacity – compared to the outgoing unit at 68 kWh – improving estimated range from 126 miles up to 159 miles in top spec, which represents an increase of 26 percent for low-roof and 32 percent for high-roof models. Using Ford Telematics data gathered from users, Ford Pro discovered that on average, commercial van customers travel 74 miles a day, meaning that this should satisfy the needs of most.
While output remains unchanged at 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, the 2024 Ford E-Transit does get faster charging speeds thanks to the presence of new, dual onboard chargers that provide peak speeds of up to 176 kW. That means that the 2024 E-Transit can add up to 67 miles of range in low-roof cargo van configuration in 15 minutes, which is 49 percent quicker than the outgoing model. Additionally, using the Ford Pro Series 2 80A charging station now results in a 22 percent boost in speed compared to the older E-Transit, fully charging the EV van from zero to 100 percent in six hours and 11 minutes.
In addition to these updates and the presence of available Pro Power Onboard with 2.4 kW of output, the 2024 Ford E-Transit – along with older models – can now be paired with FoMoCo’s new NACS adapter, enabling it to utilize Tesla Supercharger stations. Order banks for the 2024 E-Transit are scheduled to open up this spring, with deliveries expected to follow later in 2024, while pricing is slated to start out at $51,095, not including the clean energy tax credit.
