Last September, travel influencer Lexie Alford – or Lexie Limitless, as she’s otherwise known – began a historic trip across the world behind the wheel of a Ford Explorer EV prototype. Marking the 100-year anniversary of Aloha Wanderwell’s own trip that saw her become the first woman to drive around the world in a Model T, Alford began her own journey in Nice, France, and has since been working on crossing six continents. As Ford Authority recently reported, the Ford Explorer EV and Alford were set to embark on the final stage of that trip, back to Europe, which will see her become the first person to circumnavigate the globe in an electric vehicle. Now, that long and sometimes arduous journey is complete.
Over the past few months, Alford and her Ford Explorer EV have visited places like Asia, South America, Africa, Australia, and the United States – which is rather interesting given the fact that the MEB-based crossover isn’t slated to be sold there – with stops in the cities of Chicago, Detroit, and New York City. Shortly thereafter, the duo headed back across the sea to Europe.
The final leg of this journey began in Norway, continuing through Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium before wrapping things up in Nice, France, where the six-month-long trip began in September. “During this epic adventure, I had the privilege of meeting extraordinary people around the world and exploring 278 beautiful countries behind the wheel of my vehicle,” Alford said. “However, this journey was punctuated by unique challenges. It is an invaluable honor to have been chosen by Ford to travel the world aboard the all-electric Explorer, which has become my home over the last six months. My goal was to push the limits of what an electric vehicle can accomplish, and I am proud to say that I have succeeded!”
Meanwhile, the Explorer EV has been on a separate tour of its own, visiting multiple dealers across the UK recently, while a red example participated in the world-famous Rose Monday Parade in Cologne, Germany – which is notable given the fact that the EV crossover will be built at nearby Cologne Electrification Center. The new Ford Explorer EV is currently slated to launch this coming August, giving those in Europe the chance to bring home one of their own, too. However, it won’t be alone for long, as the new electrified crossover will soon be joined by another – also built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform – which may be called the Capri.
We’ll have more on the European Explorer EV soon, so be sure to subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Explorer news and around-the-clock Ford news coverage.
