Ford Explorer Production Increased In February 2024

As was the case for the market as a whole, the Ford Explorer enjoyed a bit of an up and down year in 2023 in terms of production numbers. Output for the long-running crossover plummeted in October, going from 22,623 units in September to just 173 units at the Chicago Assembly plant, though that dip can be blamed on the now-resolved United Auto Workers strike that shut down the facility for weeks. However, a new deal was reached later that month, after which Ford Explorer production increased to 19,735 units in November, then 20,120 units in December to close out the year and 21,835 units in January to kick off 2024. According to FoMoCo’s latest sales report, that upward trend continued in February, too.

In the second month of the year, Ford Explorer production totaled 24,482 units, which is an increase of just over 12 percent compared to January. These numbers pertain to the 2024 model year Explorer, however, as the refreshed 2025 model hasn’t yet entered production at the Chicago Assembly plant. However, that changeover is currently scheduled to occur on May 13th, as Ford Authority recently reported.

When the refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer does launch in the coming months, it will arrive bearing a number of notable changes compared to the outgoing model. That includes the addition of the new entry-level Active to the lineup, plus a revised fascia that varies slightly by trim, slimmer LED headlights, and lower, wider air curtains. In the rear, the taillights now extend to the nameplate appliqué, too.

In addition to the new Ford Digital Experience infotainment software, the refreshed 2025 Explorer is also getting a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, new soft touch surfaces, available ActiveX seating, silver mesh accents, and a redesigned dashboard that’s been moved forward to increase front row legroom, along with various other changes.
