Over the past couple of years, Ford has churned out some undoubtedly impressive all-electric demonstrator vehicles, a list that includes the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400, the SuperVan, the Ford F-100 Eluminator, and the Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800, to name just a few. However, the automaker is keen to keep adding all-out, no limit builds to that list, even taking them around the world to various events and showing off – as well as testing – them in front of the public eye. Now, it seems as if we’re on the cusp of another EV demonstrator reveal – this time, one based on the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Interestingly, it was less than two months ago when the Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear debuted as more of an off-road focused build sporting unique bodywork and a bespoke suspension, though its factory powertrain remains, churning out 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. However, as Ford Authority reported early last year, the automaker has also been working on something that’s seemingly more fit for on-road performance, too.
This new Ford F-150 Lightning demonstrator is expected to be equipped with an array of noticeably larger electric motors than the production version of the pickup, along with special one-off components such as lightweight composite materials, different setups for the track and drifting, an electronic brake booster, a hydraulic handbrake system, Brembo brakes from the Mustang GT4 racer, and a 56.8-kilowatt-hour battery made up of nickel manganese cobalt pouch cells for ultra-high performance and a high discharge rate.
Ford plans to reveal its latest EV demonstrator at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June – fitting, given the fact that the SuperVan set a new record in the open class there last year while also finishing second overall.
We’ll have more on the F-150 Lightning performance demonstrator soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford F-Series news, Ford F-150 news, F-150 Lightning news, and non-stop Ford news coverage.
