About Ford F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning launched for the 2022 model year, bringing America’s best-selling pickup truck into the battery electric era. The 2023 model year saw minor changes, while the 2024 model drops two configurations while adding a new Flash trim level above the XLT trim, bundling tech upgrades and the extended range battery at a more affordable price point. On the other end of the spectrum, The Blue Oval debuted the Platinum Black trim, with the F-150 Lightning being the first production Ford truck to feature a matte wrap.

In addition, the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning gains ActiveX seating for the Lariat trim, and the entire 2024 lineup gets a heat pump as standard, while dropping Active Park Assist 2.0.

Accolades abound for Ford’s all-electric full-size pickup truck, with the F-150 Lightning winning the 2024 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy award as it did for 2023. It also won Vincentric’s 2024 Best CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) Value in America Awards, and was named the Edmunds Top Rated Electric Truck for 2024.

However, in the annual J.D. Power U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study, the F-150 Lightning ranked below the mass market segment average, while the Mustang Mach-E moved up to second place. Yet the truck gained a spot on the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. ALG Residual Value Awards list.

Looking ahead, Ford CEO Jim Farley said that the next-generation F-150 Lightning will be better than the Tesla Cybertruck: “Our Gen 2, all-new full-size pickup truck, for example, is one of the most thrilling vehicles I have ever seen in my career.”
