Ford Kuga Among Top 25 European Best Sellers Of January 2024

The Ford Kuga has long been a popular choice among new vehicle shoppers across Europe, as the crossover ranked among the 50 best-sellers in that region last year. The plug-in hybrid version of the Kuga fared even better, ranking as Europe’s top-selling PHEV in 2023 and accounting for a whopping 44 percent of the model’s sales overall. That success continued into the first month of 2024 as well, as the Ford Kuga ranked among the top 25 best-sellers in Europe in January, according to new data from JATO Dynamics.

In January, the Ford Kuga ranked as the 25th best-selling new vehicle in Europe with 9,091 units sold, which is also a year-over-year increase of 27 percent. That placed it behind a number of other models including the Dacia Sandero (25,038 units sold), Volkswagen Golf (18,563), Toyota Yaris Cross (17,320), Skoda Octavia (16,510), Peugeot 208 (16,486), Citroen C3 (15,120), Peugeot 2008 (15,117), Volkswagen T-Roc (14,739), Kia Sportage (14,158), Renault Clio (13,846), Toyota Yaris (13,801), and its lineup-mate, the Ford Puma, which ranked 12th on this particular list after recording 13,375 sales in January.

As for the overall market, 1,011,281 new passenger vehicles were registered across Europe in January 2024, which is a year-over-year increase of 11 percent. A whopping 52.8 percent of that mix belonged to SUVs and crossovers like the Ford Kuga and Puma – 543,000 units in total – a staggering sum, indeed. At the same time, EVs increased their market share to 12 percent after enjoying an annual sales jump of 29 percent, though that growth has slowed somewhat as of late.

“It’s clear that SUVs are not losing their shine to European consumers, despite these vehicles being subject to new campaigns and regulations in certain countries,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “While interest in electric vehicles remains strong among consumers and fleets, these vehicles are no longer enjoying the same growth rate seen over the last year and a half. It is clear that a lack of affordable models alongside regulatory uncertainty continues to have an impact on mass adoption across Europe.”
