2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E with Ford Mustang

The Ford Authority Take

As noted above, the Ford Mustang family comprises two distinct models. The first is the gasoline-powered Mustang muscle car that is offered as a fastback-style two-door coupe or soft-top convertible, with the second being the Mustang Mach-E five-door crossover EV with a hatch. Both models are encompassed by the single Mustang sub-brand focused on performance and spirited driving.

For the first time in a while, Ford Mustang sales saw a notable upswing during Q4 2023. This is due in part to the all-new seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang, which went on sale the previous quarter. The overhauled model debuted to much fanfare, and has already accumulated quite a few accolades and wiped out the competition in comparison tests. As such, it’s safe to say that the 2024 Mustang is a hot seller, and will continue to drive interest in the pony car in the coming months as well.

Ford Mustang Mach-E sales remained in the green this quarter. This shouldn’t be surprising since the Mustang Mach-E was among the top ten best selling EVs of 2023.

Interestingly, deliveries of the two models were within 1,400 units of each other in spite being distinctly different vehicles competing vastly separate segments.

About Ford Mustang

The all-new, seventh-generation all-new 2024 Ford Mustang debuts as more than a simple refresh, redesigned inside and out while offering new tech. The overhauled cabin features a fighter jet-inspired cockpit with a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, and a new Sync 4 powered 13.2-inch infotainment screen, replacing the analog gauges with highly configurable ones.

Performance-wise, the Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost continues to serve as the base engine, with FoMoCo saying it is “all-new.” That goes for the same is true for the Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote, which is the engine’s fourth-generation, utilizing dual throttle bodies and a dual air intake box to help make it the most powerful naturally-aspirated Coyote-powered Mustang ever.

Also for 2024, the Ford Mustang GT California Special is back, and is joined by the first-ever Ford Mustang Dark Horse. The high-performance pony car harnesses a modified version of the updated Coyote engine, with 500 horsepower chomping at the bit to make it the most track-capable, street-legal 5.0L V8-powered Mustang ever produced. Ford says that the “Mustang Dark Horse is the first new performance name for the brand since Mustang Bullitt was introduced in 2001.”

Both the six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic transmissions will continue to be offered on the S650, which has received a host of additional tweaks. To put that manual gear box through its paces, the Mustang Dark Horse comes with a standard anodized blue titanium shift knob.

For 2024, all coupe models – EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse – can now be ordered with a matte clear film for the first time ever on a Mustang, and is compatible with all factory color options.

Incidentally, the 2024 Dark Horse outbraked pricier models in the Car & Driver 0-150-0 mile-per-hour speed test, and beats outgoing rivals, at least the current gas-powered Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, in the Throttle House “2024 Mustang Dark Horse: V8 DRAG RACE, Review & Lap Time.”

The first-ever 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally off-road-capable EV

About Ford Mustang Mach-E

For 2024, the first-ever Mustang Mach-E Rally debuts as an off-road-capable EV, looking the part with a unique front fascia, fog lights, a hatch-mounted rear wing, stripes, and a black-painted roof.

The new Rally offers up more power than even the range-topping Mach-E GT Performance Edition, boasting 480 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque versus 480/634 for the latter, from a pair of electric motors. The Rally is made for unpaved roads filled with dirt and loose gravel. MagneRide shocks with specially-tuned springs keeps the body in check, which rides on top of a 0.8-inch suspension lift, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin CrossClimate2 all-season tires are complemented by 15.8-inch front brake rotors featuring Brembo calipers. Special shielding protects both motors, while a unique RallySport drive mode helps take advantage of those tweaks.

Maximum range for the Rally should come in at around 250 miles from the crossover’s battery pack, which offers up 91.0 kWh of usable capacity.

Meanwhile, 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT debuts a new Bronze Appearance Package along with optional bronze wheels. However, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Premium gets a new standard roof to replace the now-optional panoramic fixed-glass roof, and the lineup drops the California Route 1 trim.

  • All percent change figures compared to Ford Mustang family sales in Q4 2022, unless otherwise noted
  • In the United States, there were 78 selling days for Q4 2023 and 78 selling days for Q4 2022
