Fresh off wrapping up 2023 as Europe’s 11th best-selling new vehicle, the Ford Puma continued its success in January by once again ranking within the top 20 on that particular list – falling to number 12 this time around. Now that February is in the proverbial rear-view mirror, new data from JATO Dynamics reveals that the Ford Puma once again managed to make the cut as one of Europe’s 25 best-selling vehicles in that particular month as well, but it also once again slipped a bit down the sales charts.
In February, the Ford Puma slid down the rankings by coming in 18th place after recording sales of 11,745 units – though that was also 18 percent higher than the same month one year ago. Regardless, this placed the Ford Puma behind a number of other European models, including the top-selling Dacia Sandero, Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 208, Citroen C3, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Yaris Cross, Renault Clio, Volkswagen T-Roc, Peugeot 2008, Dacia Duster, Fiat Panda, Kia Sportage, Fiat/Abarth 500, Renault Captur, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, and Toyota Yaris, yet also ahead of the Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi A3, and Peugeot 308.
As for the overall European new vehicle market, sales improved by 10 percent year-over-year in February to 988,116 units, and combined with January’s result, sales have increased by 11 percent in 2024 thus far. This upward trend clearly demonstrates that the European car market is enjoying a strong bounce back compared to the past few years, but interestingly, EV sales have softened somewhat, which is the case in the U.S. as well.
“As the economic outlook has continued to improve, the car market has gone from strength to strength. This comes despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions across the continent,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “Despite the noticeable shift towards EVs, many European consumers are not ready to turn away from ICE cars. While we’re seeing a clear decline in demand for diesel models, drivers are opting for gasoline alternatives, rather than switching to electric.”
