Along with wrapping up 2023 as the UK’s best-selling passenger vehicle, the Ford Puma also once again ranked among the top 20 best-selling vehicles across the entirety of Europe last year as it continues to make its way up the sales charts – even with a refreshed version of the crossover slated to arrive soon. That hot streak continued in Europe in the first month of 2024 as well, as the Ford Puma maintained its spot among the top 25 best-selling vehicles in that region, according to new data from JATO Dynamics.
In January, the Ford Puma ranked as the 12th best-selling new vehicle in Europe with 13,375 units sold, which is also a year-over-year increase of 39 percent. That placed it behind the Dacia Sandero (25,038 units sold), Volkswagen Golf (18,563), Toyota Yaris Cross (17,320), Skoda Octavia (16,510), Peugeot 208 (16,486), Citroen C3 (15,120), Peugeot 2008 (15,117), Volkswagen T-Roc (14,739), Kia Sportage (14,158), Renault Clio (13,846), and Toyota Yaris (13,801).
As for the overall market, 1,011,281 new passenger vehicles were registered across Europe in January 2024, which is a year-over-year increase of 11 percent. A whopping 52.8 percent of that mix belonged to SUVs and crossovers like the Ford Puma – 543,000 units in total – a staggering total, indeed. At the same time, EVs increased their market share to 12 percent after enjoying an annual increase of 29 percent, though growth is slowing somewhat as of late.
“It’s clear that SUVs are not losing their shine to European consumers, despite these vehicles being subject to new campaigns and regulations in certain countries,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics. “While interest in electric vehicles remains strong among consumers and fleets, these vehicles are no longer enjoying the same growth rate seen over the last year and a half. It is clear that a lack of affordable models alongside regulatory uncertainty continues to have an impact on mass adoption across Europe.”
