We come across cool Ford-related items at various collector auctions on a daily basis, whether that be low-mile or rare vehicles, memorabilia, or even custom-built pieces of furniture made from car parts. This list also includes things like actual concept cars – such as the 2004 Lincoln Mark X prototype and 2002 Ford Supercharged Thunderbird Concept – from time to time as well. However, now Blue Oval fans have something truly unique to bid on – this Ford styling department scale model that’s currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This particular scale model was reportedly crated by Ford’s styling department back in the 1950s for research and development purposes, and somehow, it has survived the test of time ever since. According to the seller, Ford engineering stylists assembled a handful of models ranging in size and materials back in 1953, all with an eye toward developing the next concept car – and this model is one of them.
This particular Ford scale model was used to test colors and color combinations by The Blue Oval’s paint team, and is made from plaster with a light green finish and a dark green roof. It also features painted silver trim and details such as simulated headlights, taillights, black windows, and wheels with wide-whitewall tires, and measures in at 28 inches long by 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall.
As one might imagine, this ultra-cool piece of Ford history has some flaws such as paint chips here and there, but nothing that would deter a Blue Oval fan. It – along with its model counterparts from this era – were featured in the book Ford at Fifty: An American Story as well, a copy of which is included with the sale. If nothing else, we rarely ever seen anything like this surface for sale anywhere, and that fact alone should conjure up some interest from FoMoCo fans and collectors alike.
