The Ford Authority Take
Ford clearly has families in mind when conjuring up ideas for some of its recently-filed patents, which include an audio-based baby calming system and a parental control and child detection system, both of which aim to make the act of transporting young folks around a bit easier and less stressful. Now, this newly filed patent aims to keep that trend going by outlining an idea for a child assistance system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As pretty much all parents are well aware, having a child in a vehicle can be quite distracting, even if they aren’t necessarily misbehaving. Whether the child is asking questions, crying, fighting, or doing just about anything else that children tend to do, it can have an impact on the driver’s ability to concentrate on what they’re doing, which can also be quite dangerous. Since yelling at the child or scolding them isn’t exactly the best way to deal with such a problem, Ford proposes this system, which aims to help with such situations.
If it comes to fruition, Ford’s idea for a child assistance system would be able to determine when there’s a child present in the vehicle, and then listen for predetermined behavior, after which it would provide feedback to the child in various forms. This can range from praise, stickers, and rewards for good behavior to corrective words for bad behavior, depending on the situation – either way, aiming to make our future car rides with children a bit safer and more bearable.
