The Ford Authority Take

Ford has long been exploring the concept of using future vehicles as more than just modes of transportation, even filing a pair of patents that aim to add various gaming vessels at some point – one for an interactive navigation coaching system, and another that would essentially turn a vehicle’s controls into a number of musical instruments. Now, this newly filed patent keeps the trend going by introducing a way that future Ford vehicles may double as mobile gaming devices, too.

If this particular patent comes to fruition, we wouldn’t just be playing games via a vehicle’s infotainment system or another screen, however. Instead, Ford proposes that when a vehicle is parked and the user is waiting around for whatever reason, they could simply play games in a more immersive manner – whether that be by incorporating screen displays and audio output inside, or even using the headlights to project the game on a wall in front of the vehicle.

This is certainly an interesting concept with a world of possibilities, including the fact that one could potentially use the vehicle’s controls – like the steering wheel and brake/accelerator pedals – to play a game, as is the case with some existing vehicles. However, using a wall as a giant screen could certainly help make that experience far more immersive as well – and it could very well be one way we pass the time in our vehicles at some point in the future.
