Lincoln Aviator production at the Chicago Assembly plant typically only totals around a couple thousand units each month, but things reached a new low for that model and the Ford Explorer when production came to a standstill during the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike last fall. In October – when production at CAP was shut down for much of the month before a tentative agreement was reached – Lincoln Aviator production totaled just 28 units, though it rebounded in a big way in November as 2,361 units were built, followed by 2,447 in December and 2,854 in January. However, that figure continued to grow in February, according to FoMoCo’s latest sales report.
Last month, a grand total of 3,202 Lincoln Aviator crossovers were built at the Chicago Assembly plant, which is a month-over-month increase of just over 12 percent. For now, at least, these Aviators are 2024 model year examples, as production of the refreshed 2025 Lincoln Aviator isn’t slated to begin until May. That’s also when the refreshed Ford Explorer will enter production, though in February, a total of 24,482 examples of the mainstream model were built.
As for the refreshed 2025 Lincoln Aviator, when it does arrive in a couple of months, it will do so bearing a host of updates for customers in the mid-size luxury crossover segment. Those include a revised front and rear fascia with an updated contoured mesh grille that’s also been raised a bit, coupled with new LED headlamps and running lamps that span the width of the front end, along with the new Lincoln Digital Experience infotainment software, the addition of BlueCruise as an option, a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen, and a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster.
In terms of powertrains, the 2025 Lincoln Aviator comes equipped with just one, for now – the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, which generates the same 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque as the outgoing model, and is mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission.
