Soon, the rejuvenated Michigan Central Station will house a variety of workers and companies focused on the future of mobility – not just Ford. However, aside from using the historic old train station to celebrate a deep playoff run by the Detroit Lions earlier this year, FoMoCo also announced that the restored site will officially open up for business this coming June, a moment that we’ve been waiting six years for to this point. Then, Michigan Central Station will become a big part of The Blue Oval’s future, but in the meantime, company chairman Bill Ford has created a new endowment aimed at helping young folks in the surrounding area.
The Michigan Central Station Children’s Endowment was created in a partnership between the Children’s Foundation and Bill and Lisa Ford, with a goal of raising at least $10 million to support youth-serving organizations in the Detroit area. The opening of Michigan Central this summer will also serve as a celebration of the campaign and recognition of the individuals and organizations who stepped forward to show their strong support for children in the Motor City.
This new campaign will enable ten youth-serving organizations to create or build their endowments – each up to $1.5 million – and every youth-serving non-profit organization in the Detroit area that meets pre-determined eligibility criteria will be able to apply. Organizations that are selected for this program will have a $500,000 endowment established for their benefit – with the possibility of unlocking another $1 million – and will also receive ongoing support and resources, along with access to drop-in collaboration space at Michigan Central Station.
Those interested in donating to this cause can do so via the official Michigan Central Station Children’s Endowment site, and donations of all sizes are welcome. Those that give $10,000 or more will be eligible to be included in the re-opening celebration at the site, however, which is certain to be a historic event.
We’ll have more on Michigan Central Station soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for continuous Ford news coverage.
