Back in late January, The Blue Oval revealed its next generation of infotainment software, which is officially called either the Ford Digital Experience or Lincoln Digital Experience, depending on which brand it’s present in. This new software is making its debut in select Ford and Lincoln models this year, including the redesigned 2024 Lincoln Nautilus, as well as the forthcoming refreshed Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer crossovers. The Ford Digital Experience features a variety of connected features and integrated apps including Google Maps and various others from that company and Amazon, and it’s a clean-sheet design – not part of the Sync family at all. Now, this next-gen Ford infotainment system is also gaining another app that users may appreciate.
That app is called Webex, and it was developed by Ford and Cisco for conferencing and collaboration purposes that aim to enable users to work from anywhere, with seamless connectivity and immersive meeting experiences. Webex is the first app to introduce immersive meeting and audio calling in the Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience software, and it even uses AI background noise removal to transform vehicles into true mobile offices with seamless integration.
Users will be able to join Webex meetings in a variety of ways – including while they’re driving, though the app limits engagement to audio only in that scenario. When the vehicle is parked, users can take advantage of video calls, as well as share content and view participant lists as they would at home on their computer or other device. The Webex app for the Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience is available to download now via the Google Play store.
“Until now, professionals on the move faced a gap in connectivity, with limited options to stay productive while on the road,” said Jeetu Patel, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Cisco Security and Collaboration. “By integrating Webex into Ford’s vehicles, we’re giving customers the choice to collaborate from anywhere, transforming vehicles into extensions of their workspace without sacrifice.”
“With the all-new Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience, our goal is to deliver a driver-first experience that can be customized and personalized to meet our customers’ needs, whether to stay productive or entertained,” said Chet Dhruna, General Manager Connect and Engage Integrated Services, Ford Motor Company. “Now, the cabin in Ford and Lincoln vehicles can be transformed into a true alternative workspace with the Webex app, plus the ability to access 5G wireless technology capability and the option to activate a Wi-Fi hot spot to connect multiple devices.”
