Ty Majeski was clearly good enough to win the Truck Series race at Las Vegas on March 1st, 2024, but his No. 98 NASCAR Ford F-150 was just a little too fast for its own good. Majeski, who won Stage 1 and 2 and led the most laps during Friday night’s race, was nabbed for speeding on Pit Road on Lap 101 of 134, according to a report from NASCAR.com.
On the final pit stop, Majeski kicked the brake heading into Pit Road, causing the wheels on the No. 98 F-150 to hop. Since he wasn’t able to slow down in time and failed to keep an eye on his RPMs, he was clocked for speeding and forced to serve a pass-through penalty that likely cost him the race. He ultimately finished 10th.
“You just can’t make those mistakes,” Majeski said after the race. “I tried to get a little bit too much. Had a little bit of wheel hop going into first gear and when that happens, you lose track of your RPMs. And when it settled down, I knew I was speeding. I didn’t match the revs good enough. It was a little mistake and that was the end of our night. We had a shot to win – great truck.”
Majeski admitted he doesn’t have much experience with green-flag pit stops, and acknowledged that it can be difficult to mentally – and literally – shift gears to rein in a race truck.
“I’ve just got to be better than that. When you’re going 180 mph for 20 minutes and you’ve got to get your mind to get back down to 55 or 60 mph, it’s not easy to get your mind right because it feels so slow and you don’t think you have to slow down that much,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rajah Caruth put the No. 71 Chevy Silverado RST in Victory Lane, taking advantage of pit strategy to win.
