After announcing its pending return to Formula 1 racing in 2026 as a power unit manufacturer for Red Bull Oracle Racing, Ford has since begun working on what it admits is a risky endeavor, yet one that can result in tremendous success if it pans out. This relationship hit a bit of a snag recently after an investigation was conducted based on claims of misconduct on the part of Red Bull Oracle Racing CEO and Team Principal Christian Horner, but he was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing. Now, these two entities are teaming up to offer the new Red Bull Ford Academy Program as part of the 2024 F1 Academy season.
Ford Motor Company will serve as the title partner for the Red Bull Ford Academy Program this year, which just kicked off recently as Emely de Heus participated in the first race of the season in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The purpose of this program is to support grassroots female drivers and prepare them to progress to Formula 3 and beyond, fostering young talent along the way by giving drivers access to more track time, racing and testing, as well as support with technical, physical, and mental preparations.
The 2024 F1 Academy season will consist of a total of seven rounds, all of which will take place on Formula 1 Grand Prix tracks, giving a host of young drivers the opportunity to compete on a variety of challenging circuits and develop their technical skills. The next race is set to take place in Miami on May 3rd-5th.
“Ford Performance is committed to working with the FIA and race promoters to find ways to integrate more female talent into all levels of motorsport, both on and off the track, and this is a great opportunity to extend that work by partnering with the best in F1 Academy,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “We have already partnered in other race series, such as Rebelle Rally, in addition to drivers such as Hailie Deegan, to bring more women to the forefront of motorsport. I am excited to partner with Red Bull to make a positive impact in F1.”
