1988 Mercury Sable GS Wagon Up For Auction

In recent months, we’ve seen a variety of Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable wagons hit various collector car auction sites across the web, a selection that includes models such as a 1991 Taurus wagon with a mere 45k miles on the clock, a 1987 LX that has actually changed hands a couple of times in recent years, and a somewhat strange 1988 Mercury Sable wearing 1950s-era Ford body parts. Now, those looking for something a bit more conventional can get it in the form of this 1988 Mercury Sable GS wagon, which is now up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.

1988 Mercury Sable GS Wagon - Exterior 002 - Rear Three Quarters

This 1988 Mercury Sable actually hails from Canada, as it lived in British Columbia for three decades before it was acquired by the seller last year. Now, it’s looking for a new home with around 120k kilometers – or 75k miles – showing on the odometer, and it’s in solid condition, to boot. On the outside, the wagon features Medium Sandalwood Metallic paint, along with a couple of dings and scratches, as one might expect.

The interior is in nice condition as well, with Light Sandalwood cloth seats, woodgrain trim, and a few amenities including a heater, a rear window defroster, crank windows, a factory AM/FM radio, and rear seat ashtrays for those times when one’s passengers need a smoke. The family hauler rolls on a set of 14-inch wheels with whitewall tires, which also fits the theme quite nicely.

Power for this Mercury Sable wagon comes from the 3.0L V6 Vulcan engine, which was factory-rated to send 140 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller has done a bit of maintenance to prepare the wagon for sale, and it’ll certainly be interesting to see just what someone is willing to pay to bring it home.

Still a nicely designed car after all these years. Had a burgundy LS.

Sad how rare these are… Cannot find my dream red 86 LX Taurus wagon no matter how hard I search or put up wanted ads for it.
