In recent months, we’ve seen a host of low-mile Ford Focus models pop up at various collector car auction sites across the web, a list that includes a 2003 Focus SVT with 25k miles, a 2003 ZXT with 15k miles, a 2004 SVT with 42k miles, a 2003 ZX3 SVT with 345 miles, and a 2002 SE wagon with 61k miles on the clock, to name just a few. However, none of these can quite compare to a 2002 Ford Focus LX that surfaced for sale at a used car dealer back in February, which – at the time – had a mere 117 miles showing on the odometer and had never been registered, as Rygg Ford – where it was originally delivered – went out of business shortly after. Now, that same Ford Focus is up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
The dealer previously trying to sell this 2002 Ford Focus LX had listed it for a whopping $20k, which is a lot of coin for a relatively bare bones model such as this, though it’s possible that it’ll garner more attention at auction. However, the economy sedan has a few more miles on the clock now than it did a couple of months ago – 134 – and the seller has replaced the tires, timing belt, front crankshaft seal, battery, fuel pump, and filter, and also flushed the coolant and changed the oil to make it roadworthy.
Otherwise, the Twilight Blue Metallic Ford Focus looks like it just rolled off the assembly line, save for some apparent hail damage on the top portion of the bodywork. The Medium Graphite cloth also has a a burn mark on the driver seat and cuts present on the right side of the dashboard, strangely enough.
Under the hood lies the original and barely used Ford 2.0L I-4 powerplant, which in this guise was factory-rated to generate 110 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the front wheels via a five-speed manual. If nothing else, this Ford Focus is undoubtedly unique and has a pretty cool story to tell, though it’ll be interesting to see just how the market values such a machine.
