Though it was discontinued years ago, the Lincoln MKZ remains a popular target on the used vehicle market, and for many good reasons. In fact, the Lincoln MKZ has received plenty of critical acclaim in that regard, having already been recognized by Consumer Reports for being one of the best used cars that cost between $15k and $20k, one of the best 10-year-old hybrids for the money, a better buy than the Genesis G80, one of the best five-year-old used passenger cars for the money, and one of the most reliable three-year-old vehicles on the market. Now, Consumer Reports has named the 2020 Lincoln MKZ as one of its recommended used luxury vehicles, too.
To come up with this list – which also includes used luxury vehicles to avoid – Consumer Reports looks at a variety of data including its own road test results, along with real-world information collected from members via the organization’s Annual Auto Surveys. From there, we’re able to see what vehicles may be popular yet aren’t exactly the most reliable or beloved by owners, as well as more underrated or better alternatives.
To make the cut as a recommended vehicle, a model must have received good road test scores, exhibit solid reliability, perform well in crash testing, and come with an array of standard or optional safety equipment such as automatic emergency braking and blind spot warning systems. In that regard, the 2020 Lincoln MKZ was rated as an “under the radar” alternative to some more popular luxury sedans for a number of reasons.
CR calls the MKZ an “excellent used car choice,” even crowning it “the most appealing and well-executive Lincoln in memory.” The hybrid, in particular, is a great choice due to its excellent fuel economy, but the MKZ also gives buyers a cushy ride, a quiet cabin, above average reliability scores, and high owner satisfaction rankings – all for a reasonable price of around $20,000-$24,000.
