Prior to the launch of the sixth-generation Ford Bronco in 2021, the reborn SUV was slated to be offered with a Shadow Black painted hardtop option that many shoppers coveted. However, in October 2020, Ford announced that this feature would instead be a late availability option for the 2021 model year. By the following March, the Shadow Black top had been pushed back to the 2022 model year, and in September, Ford announced that it wouldn’t even be available that year – nor in 2023, either. Since then, there’s been no news on when, exactly, shoppers would be able to procure a Shadow Black painted top for their SUV, but now, it has finally appeared in the 2024 Ford Bronco build and price configurator as an option.
Those seeking to equip their 2024 Ford Bronco Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, or Raptor with a black-painted roof can now do so for an extra $2,495. Alternatively, the also-long-awaited dual top option has appeared for the same trims, giving them both the Shadow Black painted hard top and a black soft top for an extra $3,145, too. Either way, the new Shadow Black top comes equipped with new headliner panels, and those that simply go for the soft top will get a $500 discount, too.
The appearance of the new black-painted hardtop has been foreshadowed for some time now, particularly as hard top availability, in general, has improved considerably since the supply constrained days of the pandemic. In fact, Ford just began selling its molded-in color (MIC) top as an accessory, albeit in limited quantities.
Additionally, the Heritage Edition debuted for 2023 with an Oxford White painted top – after which Ford Authority spotted a prototype with a black top – and the just-revealed 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor Black Appearance Package also comes with a Shadow Black painted piece. As Ford Authority reported earlier today, the 2024 Bronco Raptor just added a body color-painted hard top to its available list of options as well, which costs an extra $600.

Just another Ford failure, painted top not for the 2dr, plus they dropped the 2dr Outer Banks for 2024, and now on top of that they dropped the 2.7L for the Outerbanks all together. WTF Ford do you have any logic. I think people would like a monotone 2dr, or at least the Black painted hard top. Not everyone wants a 4dr, but no we can’t possibly make these available for the 2 door. Be smart and drop the Big Bend, Black Diamond, and OuterBanks. Make a model called the freestyle and let us choose what we want. No you only give the great options to the 4dr and Rapter. I am beginning to hate Ford for this stupidity.
