2025 Nissan Frontier Will Be Updated Ford Ranger Rival: Pics

Though it launched months later than expected, the redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger for North America is finally populating dealer lots, as well as the area surrounding the Michigan Assembly plant, where the mid-size pickup is built. The 2024 Ranger also beat out the redesigned Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado in a recent comparison test, adding another wrinkle to this hotly contested segment. Now, as we await the pending discontinuation of the full-size Titan, the 2025 Nissan Frontier is set to receive refresh for the coming model year that aims to keep it competitive in the mid-size pickup market, too.

After Nissan largely neglected the Frontier for a number of years, the pickup finally received a thorough redesign for the 2022 model year, but now, that same model is in line for a mid-cycle refresh. Ford Authority recently spotted two refreshed 2025 Nissan Frontier prototypes out testing, both of which were fitted with camo covering areas that are likely to receive styling updates, largely relegated to the front and rear ends.

The first 2025 Nissan Frontier prototype seen here is finished in Bluestone Pearl and appears to be a higher-trim level model with some off-road-focused bits present on the existing Pro-4X – such as that model’s red tow hooks and Hankook Dynapro AT2 tires, along with new wheels, an updated front grille, and various other tweaks hiding beneath that camo covering.

The second 2025 Nissan Frontier prototype seen here is finished in Gun Metallic Gray, but is wearing far more camo. Regardless, it’s clear that there’s are similar changes lurking underneath, though this model features what look to be cheaper halogen headlights rather than LEDs, which could mean this is an entry-level model.

Both pickups feature heavy camo on the inside covering areas around the infotainment screen, which suggests that the mid-sizer is getting a larger screen to keep pace with the competition – which is certainly needed as the mid-size pickup segment continues to become more and more popular

  1. The Japanese can keep their trucks over there and stop exporting them here!

    1. The Frontier isn’t exported-it’s been built here in the U.S. since 1997(introduced as a 1998 model year vehicle). The current ones are built in Canton,Mississippi.

  2. Isn’t this Frontier a rebadged FORD Ranger? LOOKS just like the Ranger.

    1. Nope it is not. And for proof; it has a better engine not some TC little 4 banger that sounds like a singer sewing machine with a bent needle. And should I say it can actually go off road.
