Given the fact that the Ford family owns the Detroit Lions – and both of which are based out of that same part of the country – it’s no surprise that the automaker and the NFL team have shared some moments together as of late, too. When the Lions rebounded from many years of losing seasons to reach the NFC Championship game this past season, Ford celebrated by lighting up the sky with their logo at Michigan Central Station, in fact, and CEO Jim Farley was also in attendance at Ford Field for an earlier playoff win as well. Now, the Detroit Lions have revealed their new uniforms ahead of the 2024 season, which take some inspiration from FoMoCo, too.
To come up with this new design, the Detroit Lions worked with Nike to reestablish Honolulu Blue by adding a richer tone of the iconic hue, paying homage to the past, while also adding True Silver to the mix. In addition to these normal uniforms, the Lions also added a black jersey option featuring Honolulu Blue lettering encased in a silver outline and an all-black alternate pant option.
According to the Lions, this design was partially inspired by the sixth-generation Ford Bronco, which prompted the team to take a classic approach while also redefining it for the modern era. Additionally, the Ford Mustang served as the inspiration for the new uniform’s stripes, to boot.
“Ford and the Lions have a rich, shared history grounded in Detroit heritage,” said Lisa Materazzo, global chief marketing officer, Ford Motor Company. “We’re proud that the Ford Bronco and the iconic Mustang served as inspiration for elements of their new uniforms and excited to see the Lions when they proudly represent Detroit in Ford Field and celebrate our shared passion for football.”
