In the van-hungry market of Europe, Ford has launched a host of new or updated products as of late, including the redesigned Transit Custom, as well as the 2024 Ford Transit, which has received a few notable updates for customers in that region, too. Now, just a few weeks after the updated Ford E-Transit was revealed for North America, The Blue Oval has also announced that the EV van is being treated to its own separate set of tweaks in Europe, too.
Like its American counterpart, the European Ford E-Transit is getting a new extended range battery touting 89 kWh of usable capacity – compared to the outgoing unit at 68 kWh – improving estimated range to 402 kilometers (250 miles) on the WLTP cycle, which is 28 percent more than the current standard range model. Additionally, a heat pump is now included as standard on the extended range variant, which should help to cut back on range loss in cold weather.
Charging performance has improved as well, with maximum AC charging speeds going from 11 kW to 22 kW, which means that customers can fully recharge the EV van’s battery in around six hours using that method. DC fast charging has also improved from 115 kW to 180 kW, which means that a 10-minute charge can add up to 116 kilometers (72 miles) of driving range, and a 10-80 percent charge takes around 28 minutes.
On top of that, the European Ford E-Transit lineup is also gaining a new minibus conversion designed to accommodate customers that operate taxis, along with schools and any entity that have a need to transport a number of passengers. Based on the E-Transit L3 window van, the minibus model is converted by the folks at ISRI and can be spec’d as a single or double front passenger seat, nine- or 12-seat rear layout, with standard or high roof options and seating for up to 15 people in total. No matter which model customers want, the updated European Ford E-Transit will be available to order later this year, with initial deliveries beginning in early 2025.
