Ford Mustang GT3 Champion Spirit Livery Officially Debuts

The Ford Mustang nameplate turns 60 years old in 2024, and The Blue Oval has been periodically releasing special Mustang products to celebrate the milestone anniversary. The 2025 Mustang is getting the 60th Anniversary Package, serving up retro looks for the iconic pony car, while the 2024 Mustang boasts a downloadable gauge cluster inspired by the 1967 through 1968 design. Fans of the Mustang can also visit the new Ford Mustang Experience Center next year at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Additionally, Mark Rushbrook, head of Ford Performance, recently announced that the Ford Mustang GT3 will also get a special livery that honors the organization’s heritage.

To honor the most iconic Mustang sports cars, the Ford Mustang GT3 IMSA factory race cars will feature the new Champion Spirit Livery, which Rushbrooks describes as being a “fusion of art and history,” taking cues from the colors of eight significant Mustang racers to create the exclusive scheme. The scheme will first hit the track at Laguna Seca on May 10th through 12th, and will continue to travel the IMSA circuit until the standard Mustang livery returns at Watkins Glen in late June.

“Upon seeing the completed version, I was immediately struck by the rich heritage and champion spirit embodied in Mustang racing,” Rushbrook said in a statement. “From its first international success at the Tour de France in 1964, just months after its debut, to the unmistakable Motorcraft livery of 1985, where Mustang dominated the IMSA GTO class, this livery represents significant moments in Mustang’s history.”

The Champion Spirit Livery isn’t the only new set of colors for the Ford Mustang GT3 in 2024. The Blue Oval racers have sported new paint schemes since the start of the racing season – and in fact, the new race car has proved so highly sought-after that Ford elected to up its production to make sure there’s enough to meet demand.
