Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an intelligent fuel display for fuel tanks that may be used in future Ford pickups, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on October 7th, 2022, published on April 11th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0116745.
The Ford Authority Take
With competition in the truck space always heated, The Blue Oval continues to file patents aimed at potential features that may wind up coming to fruition in future Ford pickups. That list includes a few related to ways one can better measure and manage loads, including patent filings for an augmented reality weight indicator and an external display for payloads. Now, this newly filed patent joins that list, this time, by outlining an idea for an intelligent fuel display for fuel tanks that may be used in future Ford pickups as well.
This particular patent pertains not to the fuel tank present in a vehicle that feeds its own engine, but rather, auxiliary tanks such as those that may wind up being located in places like the bed, as we can see in these patent drawings. These types of tanks are often used to store fuel or oil, or even fertilizer, weed killer, or water, but it can be a bit difficult to keep an eye on the level of those tanks, regardless.
Thus, that’s precisely where this system would come into play – by providing users with a more convenient way to monitor auxiliary tank levels, via the infotainment screen inside a pickup. The system would actually use weight to determine this rather than some sort of sensor, merely calculating the difference as fluid is dispersed and displaying the pertinent info for users. It’s a pretty simple yet potentially useful idea, and as such, could wind up being used in future Ford pickups as some point.
