Ford Ranked Second In Top 15 Auto Brands Through Q4 2023

Ford has maintained its position as one of the most popular – and best-selling – automotive brands in the U.S. for a very long time now, and that trend continues to this day. In fact, even as automakers based in countries other than the U.S. continue to make the new vehicle market more and more competitive, Ford continues to stay at or near the top in terms of market share. That trend continued through the end of last year as well, according to Experian’s Q4 2023 State of the Automotive Finance Market report.

Experian Q4 2024 New Vehicle Make Market Share

At the conclusion of 2023, Ford ranked second among all automotive brands in the U.S. by holding an 11.6 percent share of the market, which was second only to Toyota and its 12.8 percent. Ford also managed to beat out the rest of its competition, including Chevy, Honda, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Tesla, Jeep, Subaru, GMC, Ram, Mazda, BMW, and Volkswagen, holding onto the same position it has for years to this point. In fact, Ford has ranked second in U.S. market share every year dating back to 2019, when it last finished first in that regard.

Though it closed out Q4 2024 with a modest 0.8 percent sales increase, Ford Motor Company did wind up enjoying a total year-over-year jump of just over seven percent as it moved nearly two million units in 2023. At the same time, the Ford F-Series maintained its position as having the most vehicle registrations in the U.S. last year, too. In terms of total registrations by brand, Ford ranked third in 2023, trailing only General Motors and Toyota, holding down a spot that it has remained in every single year dating back to 2019. As far as the top two spots go, GM has also held onto first place for the most part over the past five years, though it did briefly cede the pole position to Toyota back in 2021.

  1. Where is Ford Motor Co. Heading in the future ? In the last 10 years , Ford has been treading water; pushing for the Electric vehicles , which people don’t want ! Look to Toyota, Hundai, Kia, Lexus, and Mercedes Bentz . They are building autos that people can afford, and want !

  2. There has been so many poor engineering decisions from Ford I am afraid to own one. The 3 cyl 1 litre wet belt coming apart and plugging up the oil intake, and Ford taking forever to admit the issue. Water pumps inside the engine that is a major cost to repair a simple water pump. Head gasket issues on there engines with open deck blocks. 10 speed transmission issues that GM doesn’t have even though they built these 10 speed transmissions together. But Ford changed some parts and made there own programming that is causing all there issues. But they are dragging there ass fixing these issues. And there are many more. And what’s with all the hoses under the hood on top of the engine. It looks terrible.
GM on the other hand drove many people crazy with there 8 speed transmission. All because it had the wrong fluid in them. And that took over 2 years for them to figure out. How about the AFM and DOD failures that have many people suing over lifter failures. They should be held responsible for all the issues and costs they caused there customers.
So it’s very dangerous and could be very costly just buying a new vehicle these days. Keep it simple has been eliminated from the ownership.
