Ford Transit Production Decreased In March 2024

As automotive production has steadily increased following years of supply chain-induced problems and last year’s United Auto Workers (UAW) strike, we’ve seen many Ford models, specifically, ramp up to new highs in recent months. That includes the Ford F-150, which saw its production numbers increase as of late – at least at the Dearborn Truck plant, not the Kansas City Assembly plant. That was also the case with the Ford Transit – which is built alongside the F-150 at the Kansas City plant – according to The Blue Oval’s Q1 2024 sales report.

Ford Transit production at the Kansas City Assembly plant reached 14,466 units in November 2023 – a month-over-month decrease of 2,921 units or 16.7 percent compared to October. Things got even worse in December, however, as Transit production declined by 822 units or 5.6 percent to finish out the month at 13,644 units. In January, Ford proceeded to build a total of 15,646 Transit models, which was a month-over-month increase of around 14.7 percent, or 2,002 units.

Since then, the Ford Transit has been on a bit of a mixed trajectory, in spite of its status as America’s favorite full-size van. In February, the automaker produced 17,417 units of the Transit, which was 1,771 units or a little more than 11 percent higher than January. However, things once again turned downward in March, as the Kansas City plant churned out 14,018 Ford Transit vans, good for a decrease of 3,399 units or just under 20 percent.

It’s unclear what caused this severe downturn in Ford Transit production last month, but these types of variances are quite common in the automotive world, and we’ve seen the same sort of proverbial roller coaster rides with other Blue Oval models as of late. Regardless, year-to-date Transit production currently stands at 47,081 at the conclusion of the first quarter of the year.
