Ford has long enjoyed strong support in the UK, where the automaker routinely takes up multiple slots in terms of the best-selling vehicles in that country. In fact, the Ford Puma was the top-selling vehicle in the UK in Q1 2024 overall, while the Ford Transit Custom was that country’s favorite light commercial vehicle and van over the first three months of the year, too. However, those models weren’t alone, as the Ford Transit ranked right behind the Transit Custom in terms of light commercial vehicle and van sales in Q1 2024 as well, according to new data from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited (SMMT).
In the first quarter of the year, the Ford Transit Custom topped the light commercial vehicle sales charts in the UK by recording 12,076 sales – which was a whopping 3,476 more than the second-place Ford Transit, which logged 8,600 sales over that same time period. Those two models – coupled with the third-place Ford Ranger – dominated the UK commercial vehicle sales charts in general, both in the month of March and Q1 overall.
In fact, the next closest van of any sort that doesn’t wear a Blue Oval badge on these sales charts was the Vauxhall Vivaro, though it didn’t even record half the sales of the Ford Transit Custom, which enjoyed a particularly strong March with 7,809 sales, to boot. This isn’t particularly surprising given Ford’s dedication to the van market in Europe in general, as CEO Jim Farley previously called the Transit Custom the “Super Duty of Europe,” in fact. As for the overall UK car market, new registrations rose by 10.4 percent to 317,786 units, which is the best result in the month of March since 2019, not to mention the 20th consecutive month of growth in that country.
