Ford van sales increased during the fourth quarter of 2024.
Sales of Ford’s vans include the Ford Transit full-size van, including passenger, cargo, and cutaway/chassis cab models; the all-electric E-Transit full-size cargo van; the Ford E-Series as cutaway cab and stripped chassis models; and the Ford Transit Connect compact van, including passenger and cargo models. The Connect has been discontinued after the 2023 model year.
Sales of Ford’s vans were up three percent to 47,338 units during Q4 2023. The Transit led the way, though sales flat for 28,814 units, to account for three-fifths of all deliveries with a 61 percent share. The E-Series followed with sales up 25 percent to 12,455 units and the Transit Connect with a 21 percent drop in sales to 3,926 units. The E-Transit posted 2,143 deliveries, with sales nearly flat.

Putting the Transit Connect aside, Ford’s van lineup competes against the Ram ProMaster and GM’s offerings, namely the dated Chevy Express and GMC Savana, along with The General’s all-electric commercial vans, the BrigthDrop Zevo 600 and Zevo 400, plus Rivian’s all-electric entries, the EDV/Delivery 700 and EDV/Delivery 500.

The Transit leads here as well, while the E-Transit outsells all of its current EV rivals combined. Cumulative sales of The Blue Oval’s entries in this segment account for a commanding 55 percent share.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford Transit sales reflects the full-size van’s consistent lead position as a highly desirable and popular seller, commanding its competitive segment once again during Q4 2023. This is in spite of sales slipping, or being nearly flat, for the first time this past year. Transit sales continue to be partially driven by the new Transit Trail variant that joined the lineup for the 2023 model year, which is an upfit-ready off-road-oriented van that is geared toward the van and outdoor life enthusiast.
Ford Transit launched in the U.S. 10 years ago, with The Blue Oval celebrating its best-selling van commercially and beyond.
Meanwhile, the E-Series posted the biggest gain among Ford’s models at 25 percent. Though dated, the E-Series continues to be a go-to option to underpin campers, ambulances, small buses, and other light-duty vehicles.
Finally, sales performance of the Ford E-Transit saw it slightly in the green but still far ahead of all other all-electric van entries as competitors add models.
To that end, Rivian has opened up sales of its EDV models to other customers, marketed as the Delivery 500 and Delivery 700, now that its exclusive agreement with Amazon has ended. That means the Ford E-Transit will compete with Rivian vans on a broader scale.
Furthermore, recently the 2024 Ram ProMaster EV debuted as an all-new Ford E-Transit rival.
For its part, The Blue Oval is already working on a second-generation Ford E-Transit, which may be built in Ohio, as the all-electric commercial van market slowly heats up. In the meantime, the 2024 Ford E-transit gets a new battery and faster charging.
