The Ford Authority Take

Ford – clearly recognizing that many people love their pets and would do anything for them – has filed a large number of patents aimed at that particular audience as of late. That ever-growing list includes ideas for an integrated pet bowl with water level sensing technology, a pet monitoring and control system, a pet detection system, a vehicular pet restraint system, and an ergonomically adjustable seat assembly, to name just a few. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by presenting us with an idea for an automatically adjusting seat for pets that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.

As Ford points out in the patent, we tend to take our pets with us in vehicles quite frequently, though in many cases, owners opt to let them ride in a regular seat rather than in the cargo area or a crate. Thus, the automaker sees a potential need for an automatically adjusting seat that could make things a bit more comfortable for those pets.

This system would do that by first being able to recognize when a pet is sitting in the seat, as well as determine how large or small the pet is. From there, the system could tilt the seat back and raise the bottom portion, extend the seat bolster, and even turn off the seat belt warning, depending on these circumstances. It’s an interesting idea for sure, and one that many pet owners might find useful when transporting their furry friends around, too.

How about we skip all the goofy gadgets and just make an affordable and dependable vehicle.

Ive noticed the huge increase in price in just a few years. In 2014, a Platinum F150 cost about 55K, and now costs over 100K but most of the features are pretty similar. Am I missing something here? Ford takes away the 5.0 liter which was very awesome and dependable to be replaced with a 3.5L that pukes leaks every where there is a gasket. And yet the price is jacked up $30-50K just to have the owner replace bottom engine with aluminum cast parts to REPAIR the leaking original engine on their dime. What am I missing? For a $80-100K+ truck, it’d better talk like KIT in Knight Rider and comfy as a Royles Royce. FORD, stop spiking up the prices when the economy has gone to crap!!
