The M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 racer was slated to get a few changes for the upcoming World Rally Championship (WRC) season, including – as Ford Authority reported back in January – a new rear wing, which was being tested ahead of the 2024 season opener at Monte Carlo at that time. The new wing wasn’t apparently ready for prime time back then, however, but was expected to find its way onto the M-Sport Ford rally racer at some point later this year. Now, shortly after claiming two straight podium finishes to kick off the 2024 season, M-Sport Ford is ready to try out its new rear wing at the upcoming Croatia Rally.
Adrien Fourmaux and Grégoire Munster will be looking to secure their third straight podium finish in Croatia, which is the WRC season’s very first race taking place purely on asphalt, and they’ll be joined by William Creighton in a Ford Fiesta Rally2. Croatia is one of the younger races on the WRC circuit, however, as this is just the fourth year it has been on the calendar – though it’s already incredibly popular after attracting more than 300,000 fans over the past two years.
Grip and tire selection are always critical in Croatia, as much of its circuit features uneven and even damaged pieces of pavement, and weather can also have a tremendous impact on conditions, too. As such, M-Sport Ford sees this as the perfect opportunity to test out its new rear wing in actual racing action, and it notes that the aerodynamic improvements it offers should help the team gain a bit of an upper hand this coming weekend – not to mention the rest of the season.
“I’m incredibly proud of what the team has achieved this season so far and believe our approach has served us well,” said Richard Millener, M-Sport Team Principal. “Adrien has done a fantastic job to achieve two podiums already, and I look forward to seeing what he can do in Croatia with his good knowledge base and experience here. I enjoy going to Croatia, it has a great atmosphere with all the fans in the service park and on the stages and perfectly exemplifies the attraction to this sport. With another big field of Juniors as well, it’s set to be a highly entertaining event!”
