Greg Biffle, perhaps most recognizable from his 13-year tenure behind the wheel of the No. 16 NASCAR Ford in the Cup Series, has been nominated to be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, according to a recent report from NASCAR.com.
Biffle first made a name for himself in the 1995 NASCAR Winter Heat Series, drawing the attention of team owner Jack Roush – who himself was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2017 – and promoted to the Truck Series in 1998. Driving a Ford race truck for Roush Racing (now Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, or RFK), he did not win a race in his maiden season, but finished eighth in the overall points standings, then had a breakout season in 1999, bringing the No. 50 Ford truck to Victory Lane nine times and finishing second in the championship. In 2000, Biffle nabbed five wins and the Truck Series title.
Biffle then moved to the Xfinity Series in 2001, earning the Rookie of the Year title before earning the 2002 championship just one season later, making him the first driver to have a championship trophy in both the Truck and Xfinity Series. He graduated to the Cup Series full-time in 2003, earning his first career win in the division at the summer Daytona race that same year. Biffle went on to win 19 more races at NASCAR’s highest level throughout his career, and was a staple of the postseason Playoffs, finishing inside the top 10 six times, including a second-place finish in 2005. However, he never won a championship, and retired from fulltime competition in 2016.
Voting day for the Class of 2025 is scheduled for May 21st, 2024. Two honorees will be selected from the 10 names on the Modern Era ballot – Biffle’s division – and one will be elected from the five Pioneer nominees. Fan voting, which will count as one vote among those cast by the voting panel, is currently open.
