In recent months, we’ve seen quite a few Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models cross the virtual block at a variety of collector car auction sites and sell for solid money. That list is riddled with nice, low-mile examples like a 2005 Sable LS wagon, a 2004 Taurus wagon with 40k miles, and a sub-200 mile 2005 Taurus SE, to name just a few. Last week, this 2004 Ford Taurus SE popped up for sale at Bring a Trailer with no reserve, and it seemed like it might just keep that trend going. However, that wasn’t the case at all, and someone wound up getting a solid deal on that particular sedan instead.
Rather than hammer for big money, this 2004 Ford Taurus SE sold for a mere $2,400, which is far less than most similar models are currently going for. In fact, 2004 Ford Taurus models with this kind of mileage – 84k in this case – are typically selling for anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000 at the moment.
Of course, there are some potential reasons why this particular Taurus might have sold for a fraction of those prices, including the fact that it has a few paint blemishes, along with a missing wheel center cap. However, it’s apparently rust free and has a clean title and accident-free history, leading many commenters to wonder why it wound up selling so cheap – and a few that wished they had placed a bid themselves.
While it isn’t exactly what most would call a coveted collector vehicle, nor does it sport super-low mileage or a celebrity ownership history, this 2004 Ford Taurus is still a solid used vehicle that could, at the very least, provide someone with an affordable mode of transportation for years to come – something that isn’t exactly easy to find these days.
