Following years of suppressed levels, new Ford inventory has bounced back in a big way – and perhaps too much – as of late. In fact, new Ford inventory levels have remained higher than the industry average for months now, and as it completes quality reviews, the refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 has been stashed in large quantities at various locations for some time as well, though deliveries of that pickup are well underway at this point. However, it seems as if there’s still plenty of 2023 Ford F-150 inventory to dispose of in order to make room for 2024 models, which has prompted The Blue Oval to bring back stair-step incentives, according to Automotive News.
The automaker launched a similar program designed to sell down some of its excess Ford Bronco inventory earlier this year, which paid dealers $500 per 2023 or 2024 model year Ford Bronco sold, so long as they exceed 100 percent of their sales objectives. Dealers that surpass that same goal by 110 percent will get $750 per Ford Bronco sold, too. Stair-step programs have historically been used to incentivize dealers to meet or exceed their sales goals, or simply to boost sales volume.
Now, the 2023 Ford F-150 is eligible for a stair-step program of its own as FoMoCo works to ramp up sales and drive down inventory. According to this report, the automaker actually started the program back in February, in which it is currently paying dealers $750 per pickup sold if they reach their sales target, or $1,000 per truck sold if they hit 120 percent of that goal. In February and March, FoMoCo rewarded dealers with an even higher $1,500 for each truck sold if they achieved 120 percent of their objective, too.
This incentive reportedly applies not only to ICE-powered 2023 Ford F-150 models, but also, the all-electric Lightning as well. However, while 2024 model year sales do count toward a dealer’s goals, they are not included in this payout calculation.
