Earlier today, Ford dropped a bit of a bombshell by noting that not only is it pushing back production of the forthcoming Ford Explorer EV for North America and the next-generation Ford F-150 EV, but also, stating that “by the end of the decade, the company expects to offer hybrid powertrains across its entire Ford Blue lineup in North America.” Given the fact that quite a few Blue Oval ICE models aren’t currently offered with a hybrid option, this is huge news – and potentially great news for those that have long been patiently awaiting the arrival of a Ford Mustang hybrid.
The Blue Oval didn’t come out and say definitively that a Ford Mustang hybrid is in the works, but the iconic pony car is one of several models that falls within its Ford Blue lineup, which was created specifically for traditional ICE-powered vehicles, while Ford Pro pertains to the commercial business and Model e to EVs. As we can see from the automaker’s March 2023 teach-in session that outlined these changes, the Ford Mustang is clearly listed as part of Ford Blue, too.
As many pony car fans are well aware, a Ford Mustang hybrid has been rumored to be in the works for a very long time now. In fact, such a model was expected to launch alongside the all-new S650 generation for the 2024 model year, but it was ultimately canceled as the automaker instead chose to stick with its tried-and-true pure ICE powerplant lineup.
However, several months later, CEO Jim Farley hinted that a Ford Mustang hybrid remained a stronger possibility than an all-electric version of the long-running model, too – saying “but could there be a partially electrified Mustang coupe – and it be world-class? Yeah.” Whether or not that hint winds up coming true remains to be seen, but given today’s announcement, a Mustang hybrid certainly seems to be closer to reality than ever before.
We’ll have more on the potential Ford Mustang hybrid soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Mustang news and 24/7 Ford news coverage.

Ford Authority posted a patent on a hybrid Mustang with a parallel setup similar to the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, using two electric motors driving the front wheels. This will allow low speed driving without powering the gas engine, suitable for valet parking and silent morning stsrtups. Fusion hybrids are series setups.
Wouldn’t it be great if Lincoln division came out with a Lincoln version of the Mustang, aka Lincoln LSC Convertible. That could put a new shot in the arm for both younger and young seniors alike. I still liked the Lincoln Prototype of the 2004 T-Bird, it was a great looking car.
And a proper LS, larger Continental and Mark9 please all built off S650
Let’s do it!!!
Might as well be standard with the ecoblow
