Cam Waters of Australian Supercars fame decided to try his hand at American stock car racing in 2024. He first took to the track behind the wheel of a NASCAR Ford F-150 race truck at Martinsville, although he finished 30th after suffering a punctured radiator in a crash. For his next shot at NASCAR, Waters will take control of the No. 60 Ford Mustang Dark Horse race car in the Cup Series at Sonoma on June 8th, 2024.
The No. 60 Mustang is part of the Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing (RFK) Stage60 project, which is a part-time Cup Series entry in 2024. David Ragan drove the No. 60 Mustang in the Daytona 500 already this year, and now, Waters will take it through the twists and turns at Sonoma.
RFK and Waters broke the news in a video on social media. Waters makes his way through the NASCAR Ford race shop and is greeted by RFK part owner and fulltime driver, Brad Keselowski. At this time, RFK hasn’t released a sponsor lineup for Waters’ No. 60 NASCAR Ford race car, or what its livery will look like.

As a reminder, RFK’s Stage 60 program is similar to an existing program run by a Chevy team in the Cup Series. Project 91 is fielded by Trackhouse Racing and has allowed international drivers like Supercars veteran Shane van Gisbergen to get a taste of NASCAR racing. After participating in that program, van Gisbergen now competes fulltime in the Xfinity Series. Keselowski indicated that Stage 60 will not be solely focused on NASCAR, and is exploring the idea of competing in IMSA in the future.
“The principle behind it was, ‘hey, we want to get to a third car,’ but just going out, and even if you were to go buy a charter tomorrow and even if you were to sign the right partners tomorrow, you still would need to have people and have assets,” Keselowski said. “And so we realized that we needed to kind of crawl, walk, and run our way to making that a successful venture.”
