Throughout the course of its own history, the FBI has used all kinds of Blue Oval vehicles in its day-to-day operations – many of them as unmarked surveillance units. In recent months, we’ve seen a few decommissioned FBI vehicles go up for sale as well, a list that includes a former FBI surveillance Ford E-Series van, as well as a Ford E-450 Super Duty that served as something of a mobile office for that law enforcement agency. Now, this 2000 Ford F-550 Super Duty wrecker has joined that list, as it’s currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This Ford F-550 Super Duty was purchased new by the FBI – presumably, for towing purposes – though it wasn’t driven much over the years, as the wrecker currently has just 24k miles on the clock. Thus, it still has plenty of life left, particularly since it’s equipped with tons of goodies including clearance lights, emergency lights, rear spotlights, a hydraulically operated Century F6500 wheel lifter, a 611 boom, a Ramsey winch, and a diamond plate floor.
Being a workhorse, the interior of this Ford F-550 Super Duty doesn’t feature too many frills, however. Its seats are covered in Medium Parchment cloth with patterned inserts and are flanked by black vinyl flooring, along with amenities such as air conditioning, cruise control, a cassette stereo, an auxiliary idle control module, and a switch panel for the emergency lights.
Power for this wrecker comes from the turbocharged 7.3L V8 Power Stroke diesel, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 235 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. In nice condition with a cool history, we wouldn’t be surprised if some FBI buff – or just somebody that needs a good wrecker – shows interest in this Super Duty, if nothing else.
