Last October, the all-new Ford Transit Custom launched in Europe, which is rather notable given the fact that the van is what CEO Jim Farley has previously referred to as the company’s “Super Duty” for that particular region. Reportedly slated to have an 11-year lifecycle, the latest version of the best-selling van will also come in all-electric guise via the Ford E-Transit Custom, and even though demand for EVs has waned as of late, the automaker does have plenty of production flexibility at the Ford Otosan Assembly plant in Turkey, where both versions are built. Now, the Ford E-Transit Custom has joined the regular Transit Custom after launching in Europe, too.
European customers can order a new Ford E-Transit Custom now, with the very first deliveries expected to begin this summer. The new EV van is available in a wide range of trims – Trend, Limited, Sport, and MS-RT, as well as configurations including panel van, double cab-in van, Kombi, and MultiCab, too.
Equipped with a 64 kWh useable battery, the Ford E-Transit Custom can travel up to 337 kilometers (209 miles) on a single charge, and come equipped with a heat pump to minimize range loss during colder weather. Customers can choose from two power outputs, however – 100 kW or 160 kW (133 or 214 horsepower) – though each of which produces the same 415 Nm (306 pound-feet) of torque, while the MS-RT churns out even more – 210 kW (282 horsepower). The van can tow up to 2,300 kilograms (5,071 pounds), too.
“Small businesses are the heart of Europe’s economy and essential to our communities – and many of them have come to rely on Ford vans,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “We’ve served those customers for over half a century; their insights have helped us develop electric, plug-in hybrid, and diesel vans to suit customers in every trade and location, as well as supporting services designed to make big fleet‑level productivity achievable for small businesses without a fleet manager.”
